Ahhh breakfast in bed. The eternal myth of Mother’s Day dreams. I mean, honestly, while not lifting a finger and enjoying a scrumptious meal while reclined in a cozy warm nest may sound appealing, crumbs and lost fruit chunks are not what I like between my sheets. Know your audience.
Before I get to breakfast, I want to recognize all that is being a mother. Moms, you are awesome! You bring life into the world, you are incredible role models, you pour out your love and attention and everything that you are. Thank you for your sacrifice, your dedication, and your ability to be simply incredible.
Moms are notorious for putting themselves at the bottom of the totem pole, putting everything ahead of themselves. While this feels like the right thing to do, sacrificing your health helps no-one! Be sure you are taking care of yourself, because if you don’t, you can’t be there when it matters. There are amazing resources all around you, ready to help if you need them. Encourage one another to be your best, healthiest, happiest, selves.
If you, or the health conscious mother in your life get the urge for an indulgent breakfast, in or out of bed⏤ I won’t tell you how to live your life, but want to avoid the carb coma, sugar loaded confections that pass as breakfast, I have found an interesting option for you.
Now bear with me on this one!
Can you guess the secret ingredient?
Happy Cinco de Mayo! As a lover of Mexican food and flavor, I am happy to celebrate a holiday which revolves around spicy, cheese, yummy food. Don’t be confused! I made it both tasty and healthy, so it won’t be busting your little belly.
First up: QUESO! To lighten the load, I did some research and made a few swaps. Continue reading
Warmer weather tends to inspire the primal urge for vacation. With spring travel upon us and summer right around the corner, I thought some tips on travel might be helpful. It can be hard to avoid the familiar feeling of road trip snacks in the car and mindlessly eating one after another after another until you’ve been grazing for three hours and the entire bag of whatever that was is gone down the hatch. As bariatric patients, we know that is not ideal. Heck! It isn’t exactly ideal for any human looking to maintain their health.
Whether you find yourself on a plane, train, automobile, boat, gondola⏤ wherever, here are some easy things to plan for or keep in mind with your warm weather adventures. Or maybe an Arctic trip would be a nice way to get away from the southern heat! Continue reading
Happy Spring, BariBuddies!
I have always loved Easter. It always feels so fresh and full of life! It also has the very best themed candy of all the holidays. Don’t argue with me, I am right. I won’t talk about it too much, but you should know I am applying the greatest restraint I can muster.
In effort to not focus on all the sugary splendors of the imaginary Easter basket of my mind —don’t worry, it won’t become real, not worth the sabotage— I started looking for Easter worthy spring foods that were equally as cute and delicious, but full of actual nutritional value instead of empty calories and sugar to drag me down.
Enter the Spring Chicken Nest!🐣🌷
Knock Knock, BariBuddies—
Hello, my BariBuddies!
Tuesday, February 28th marks “Fat Tuesday” a holiday made for fun. Mardi Gras, and especially Fat Tuesday, is all about indulgence, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get in the New Orleans spirit and stay in the clear.
To you I present— Shrimp & not really Grits!
Hello, my BariBuddies!
It is almost Super Bowl Sunday, which in my mind means SNACKS. Crunchy, salty, warm, gooey, sweet, spicy, cool, delicious snacks. There is also football, the Puppy Bowl, fun commercials, and competitive friends.
As one who enjoys playing hostess, I know it is important to be yourself, but also cater to the needs of your guests. Super Bowl Sunday being the all American holiday that it is, typically comes with all the unhealthy options one can imagine. As a weight loss surgery warrior, it can be tricky to navigate the carb infested party scene, provide an amazing dish to share, and not feel like you’re left out.
Fear not. The BariQueen is here to help!
We wanted to share this article and keep all of you in the know about why you cannot find calorie labels on most restaurant menus.
By MARY CLARE JALONICK, Associated Press
WASHINGTON — Wondering how many calories are in that hamburger? Chain restaurants still don’t have to tell you, despite a 6-year-old law requiring calorie labels on menus.
Passed as part of the health care overhaul in 2010, the rules will eventually require restaurants and other establishments that sell prepared foods and have 20 or more locations to post the calorie content of food “clearly and conspicuously” on their menus, menu boards and displays.
This month, the Food and Drug Administration said it will delay the rules — again — until 2017.

When many of us think about robotics, our minds may very well drift toward thoughts of automobiles and airplanes transforming into fighting defenders to save our world from attacking invaders. Perhaps instead we think about the futuristic world of the Jetsons where our mechanized friends help us get ready in the morning, clean our house, and aid us throughout the day. Yet despite these images, the reality is robotics exist in the present day world and have already started to enter every part of our daily lives. The surgical fields are no exception.
While doing our own research, looking for patients who chose the intragastric balloon over traditional surgery, we came across the below article from a Pittsburg publication. It was interesting to learn a patient’s perspective as an alternative to the normal industry buzz or physician’s opinion….
