About Our Surgeons

Paul E. Enochs, M.D., F.A.C.S

Dr. Paul Enochs started the Triangle's first and only private weight loss surgery center nearly a decade ago. He has performed Raleigh's first gastric bypass and Lap Band procedure and to date has done more bariatric procedures in the Triangle area than any other bariatric surgeon. Bariatric Specialists of North Carolina is also the only practice to perform the Single Incision Lap Band procedure (SILS). He is the founder of the weight loss surgery centers and is presently the Medical Director for Bariatrics at Wake Med Cary Hospital and formerly at Rex Hospital in Raleigh. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a member of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.

Dr. Enochs received his medical degree from the University of South Alabama College Of Medicine. He completed his surgery residency at the University of South Alabama Medical Center where his primary focus and specialization was advanced laparoscopy and bariatric surgery. He received additional fellowship training in bariatric surgery and advanced laparoscopy at the University of California - San Francisco, the Carolinas Medical Center, the Medical College of Virginia, and the Duke University Medical Center. He resides in Raleigh with his wife and two beautiful kids.


Michael A. Tyner, M.D., F.A.C.S

Dr. Tyner graduated with honors from Wake Forest University in 1979. He completed medical school and his general surgery residency at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

Dr. Tyner began his professional career with Easley Surgical Associates of Easley, SC in 1988. In 1990, he joined Four Counties Surgical clinic in Henderson, NC, and then Pinehurst Surgical Associates of Pinehurst, NC in 1992. In 1997, Dr. Tyner joined Executive Surgical Center in Raleigh, NC, where he focused his attention in Cary, NC. He went onto become a founding partner of Cary Surgical Specialists in 2003. Dr. Tyner is certified by the American Board of Surgeons.

His areas of expertise and special interest lie primarily in advanced laparoscopic surgery of the GI tract. He has studied anti-reflux surgery with world renowned surgeons, using his knowledge to teach and mentor surgeons in the most current techniques. He has incorporated minimally invasive procedures to diagnosis of breast disease with ultrasound and x-ray guided breast biopsies.


Jon-Michael Bruce, M.D., F.A.C.S

Dr. Bruce was raised in Western New York. He graduated from Niagara University in Niagara Falls, New York. He then studied medicine and completed a general surgery residency at the State University of New York at Buffalo. He graduated with honors from college and medical school and won several teaching awards during residency.

Upon completion of his surgical training Dr. Bruce entered active duty in the United States Army. He was initially stationed in Heidelberg, Germany and was assigned to the 212th MASH, fulfilling a lifetime dream of becoming "Hawkeye Pierce". He was deployed twice to the Balkan Peninsula during the Kosovo conflict. He finished his military obligation at Fort Hood, Texas and received an Honorable Discharge. He spent the past four years in private practice in central Georgia, while also serving as clinical faculty for Mercer University.

Dr. Bruce has extensive training in advanced laparoscopic techniques, studying at the University of Louis Pasteur in Strasbourg, France as well as many post-residency courses and training sessions since. He is an active member of the Society of Advanced Gastroendoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a fellow of the American Hernia Society. His professional interests are primarily in laparoscopic and breast surgery, but he enjoys a well-rounded surgical experience.

His personal interests include spending time with his family, traveling, music, and maintaining an active lifestyle. Dr. Bruce and his wife Tina recently relocated to Cary from Georgia with their four children; Christina (10), Courtney (8), Jacob (5), and Jenna (2). He and his family are excited to call the Triangle home.
